"An easy to read, well constructed crime thriller with a dramatic climax."
A twisting crime thriller that sees a relationship take a sinister turn and a complex police investigation uncovering more than expected. Keiron lives his life according to a very strict routine, supported and encouraged by his partner Lucy. When Lucy goes away for work and doesn’t return, Keiron’s world starts to go off-kilter. Concerned about Lucy’s whereabouts but sticking to their agreement to not mention her to anyone leaves Keiron unable to ask for help to find her. His life is thrown off course completely when he is nearly fatally attacked. DC Poonam Dhillon is trying to move on from her past and abusive upbringing, and is now working on an investigation into the internal theft of millions from CompServe, the prime suspect none other than Keiron. As the mystery twists and turns, Keiron and Poonam are each required to confront their past for the clouds to part and shine light on the answers and a possible brighter future. ‘When the Clouds Break’ by P R Pemberton is an interesting crime thriller that follows both Keiron’s life, DC Dhillon’s investigations and the fallouts from both. I found Keiron was an interesting character that I had a lot of questions about as I first started to read. As the story progresses I began to understand his character more and hoped for a positive resolution. DC Dhillon provides us with access to the police investigations and a behind the scenes look at the investigations and a variety of colourful supporting characters. I wasn’t surprised by the overall outcome of the case however this story does have an extra sting in the tail that could leave you with some unanswered questions. An easy to read, well constructed crime thriller with a dramatic climax.
