The Code of Fundraising Practice

LoveReading and the Fundraising Regulator

At LoveReading and LoveReading4Kids, we believe reading changes lives - and that fundraising for books and literacy should always be done with honesty, fairness, and transparency.

We’re proud to be registered with the Fundraising Regulator, the independent body that sets and maintains the standards for charitable fundraising in the UK. From 1st November 2025, we will fully comply with the new Code of Fundraising Practice, which replaces the 2019 version and introduces stronger principles for ethical fundraising in today’s digital world.

Our Commitment to Ethical Fundraising

We are committed to ensuring that all of our fundraising activity is legal, open, honest and respectful. This includes our school fundraising initiatives, partnerships, and donation programmes that help get more books into children’s hands.

The new 2025 Code places greater emphasis on:

  • Transparency about how donations are used and any benefits offered in return
  • Oversight and due diligence when working with partners or fundraising platforms
  • Protecting children, young people, and people in vulnerable circumstances
  • Accountability and strong governance around all fundraising activity

How We Fundraise and Work with Partners

LoveReading partners with schools, literacy charities, and publishers to promote reading for pleasure and raise funds for schools across the UK.

When you buy a book through LoveReading or LoveReading4Kids, 25% of the cover price can be donated to a school of your choice.

No additional fees are deducted from this amount - every penny of that 25% goes directly to schools to buy more brilliant books for their classrooms and libraries.

If the shopper has no affinity with a school, 10% is donated to our Funding for Schools Scheme, which prioritises schools with disadvantage. We conduct due diligence on all our commercial and charitable partners, ensuring transparent written agreements are in place about how funds are raised, distributed, and reported.

Fundraising Involving Children and Schools

Many of our initiatives involve children, families, and schools, so we take particular care to follow the new Code’s requirements for fundraising involving children and people in vulnerable circumstances.

We ensure:

  • All fundraising communications are age-appropriate and clear
  • Children are never asked to handle or manage money without adult supervision
  • No undue pressure is placed on children or families to participate or give
  • All activity is overseen by responsible adults or school staff

Volunteers and Ambassadors

Where volunteers, reading champions, or ambassadors help promote LoveReading’s fundraising initiatives, they receive guidance and support to ensure their work aligns with the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Practice and with our values of fairness, integrity, and transparency.

Governance and Oversight

Our leadership team regularly reviews all fundraising-related activity to ensure compliance with the Code of Fundraising Practice.

We monitor partner relationships, school programmes, and donation mechanisms to make sure all activity is ethical, transparent, and accountable.

Transparency and Contact

We want every supporter, parent, or school to understand how our fundraising works and where money goes. If you have a question or concern about our fundraising, please contact us at:

[email protected]

If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Fundraising Regulator directly at www.fundraisingregulator.org.uk.

Our Promise

We will continue to uphold the highest standards in everything we do - ensuring that every donation, partnership, and book purchase helps to close the literacy gap and bring the joy of reading to more children.

Because reading matters.

And books really do change lives.
