LoveReading Says

LoveReading Says

Flo has a slow start as the reader learns about the central character. A break-up after being cheated on, a search for somewhere to live, an invite to be a bridesmaid for a 'not' friend and many more situations that readers will identify with, including the 'pressure' of her own thoughts (and that of her mother) of being a female of a certain age to get married and have children. Flo is very self-absorbed and will make readers feel sympathetic, angry, empathetic and frustrated. Flo's mother, dying of cancer, is poignant and relatable. Intermingled with all that is going on in Flo's life, Flo just wants her mother to tell her for once that she is proud of her. But all her mother is interested in is Flo's friend's upcoming wedding and Flo's lack of a husband and children. Flo experiences continual self doubt and always feels second best after her brothers. By the end, Flo appears to be stronger and determined not to settle for a 'last chance' husband. The book is an 'anxious' read where you want to help her, give her a shoulder to cry on and shake her. Bridget Jones but with more angst and less comedy.
