Since 2002 MathWorks has followed a twice-yearly general release schedule (with an "a" release in the March timeframe and a "b" release in the September timeframe) introducing new functions, features, concepts, and toolboxes. It is impossible to fully describe all the functions of MATLAB®, or keep pace every new software release, in one book. However, being a proficient applied programmer means knowing the basics and understanding a variety of available resources so that, if needed, knowledge in certain areas can be built up fast, or new topics can be quickly incorporated.
