About

Burton Upon Trent Through Time Synopsis

Burton straddles the River Trent and is famous for being the world capital of the brewing industry, with companies such as Bass, Worthington, Marstons, Allsopps, Ind Coope, Truman Hanbury & Buxton and Salts. Over several hundred years, Burton has been famous for many other industries, including wool from the monks of Burton Abbey, steam locomotives by Baguley, Ricknield cars and lorries, John Port of Soho top hats, and Thornewill & Warham iron foundry and engine works. Today, we have beautiful river walks through the Washlands and the awardwinning Stapenhill Gardens; there are three shopping centres, an arts centre, sports centre, several gyms and lots of good food outlets, along with an assortment of nightlife with pubs and clubs. We also have the national Museum of Brewing, at one time the Bass Museum. All these changes and many more can be seen in Burton upon Trent Through Time.
