"A well-written surfing sports romance set in sunny Portugal, between confident journalist Iris and cynical surfer Leo "
Iris, a sports writer who is secretly scared of the ocean from a childhood incident, is commissioned to write a hands-on piece about her famous employer’s son Leo, a former pro-surfer and bad boy who is making a comeback. Once Iris arrives at his training in Portugal, fly between them, of course. We’ve got a lovely execution of the grumpy-sunshine romance trope, and Leo’s suspicion of her gives an enemies-to-lovers energy, as well as him teaching her to surf, as a sexy and sincere set-piece.
Reilly makes it easy to imagine the gorgeous Leo emerging from the waves, surfboard in hand, and Iris — who Leo nicknames ‘London’ for her metropolitan ways — in a glamorous dress and heels on the beach waiting for him. Set in a beautiful fishing town in Portugal with a cast of comforting friends and supporters (to be honest I fancied Leo’s dad most of all!) it’s got all the marks of a beach read.
