"Darkly vibrant, this hugely ambitious and stunning reimagining of ancient India spins an intricate web of secrets and lies, death and survival, it’s a knockout of epic proportions.
"
This monster of a novel absolutely slayed me, in both its decisive bravery and exposing intimacy. Even though it runs concurrently to author Gourav Mohanty’s wonderful debut Sons Of Darkness, you really do need to start with the first book in order to fully appreciate the magic at work here. The plot that has been in play since the beginning is earth-shaking as it twists both threadlike and thunderous vines together into a story that feels newly unique as it bears an ancient myth. The cast list is huge, and while some are already well known, others await introduction. Just make sure to prepare yourself for favourites to fall, no-one is safe, which is both utterly wonderful and heartbreaking. I absolutely adored how my emotions were pulled and pushed one way then the other, I laughed, I cried, I felt as though I was a part of this tale. The pivotal power-play, the fight for survival, the delicacy of new relationships, the understanding of self, all join to stitch the words into one hell of a story. I am left positively aching for more and so as well as a Liz Pick of the Month, this joins our list of LoveReading Star Books. Striking and memorable, Dance of Shadows is an impressively fiery novel worthy of attention, it comes as highly recommended by our team.
As the royal houses of SONS OF DARKNESS intrigued, manoeuvred and finally met in open battle with devastating consequences, far more sinister deeds were unfolding just over the Eastern horizon. DANCE OF SHADOWS is that story.
A fragile armistice may hold in the West, but everyone knows it cannot last. In the Tree Cities of the East, a Conclave of Peace has assembled to secure the future of the realm. But the delegates -- deaf swordswomen and exiled snakelings, spoilt heroes and lovesick princes, immortal assassins and their apprentices -- will find no sun to light their path.
After all, the season of peace is the finest time to plant the seeds of war.
For the Son of Darkness rises, boiling over with a wrath that all the oracles in the world cannot hope to stop. After all, seeing the future is one thing, changing it is quite another.
But who is to say that there isn't a way?
In his dark re-imagining of ancient India, Mohanty dangles a vibrant cast of dubious heroes from the threads of fate: ancient foes awake, bitter enemies reconcile, old friends swear to destroy each other. The Sun is setting on the age of humanity, and shadows are gathering to dance...
Gourav Mohanty was born, and currently lives, in Bhubaneswar, the City of Temples. A connoisseur of mythologies and momos, he’s been certified as a nerd ever since he graduated as a gold medallist from law school. He keeps things interesting by daylighting as a lawyer, moonlighting as a stand-up comic and gaslighting as a storyteller. Sons of Darkness is his first novel.
