Winner of Best Read of the Year at the Galaxy British Book Awards 2007.

Reviewed on Richard & Judy on Wednesday 31 January 2007.
A novel on many levels: a social history of New York at the turn of the last century, a fascinating murder mystery and an insight into the relationship between Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung.  An ambitious work, beautifully written, at times wonderfully evocative of its period but, in my mind, at times slightly over-written.  It is certainly an impressive work, a tad long but the dialogue between the two psychologists is fascinating.  But I suppose that depends on what you are looking for, for the murder investigation itself is fascinating too.  All in all an enthralling, intelligent and well researched novel.

Richard & Judy said of the book: "Sexy, gripping murder mystery. Page turner doesn't do it justice." "Terrific murder mystery. We really loved it."

Comparison: Caleb Carr, Frank Tallis, Carlos Ruiz Zafon.
