A fictionalised account of the brief period Brian Clough spent at Leeds United as manager. Even if football is not for you there is plenty to keep you turning the pages with a story of "what might have happened" with the man who is considered by many to the greatest manager British football has ever had. He also had his personal demons and to battle as well.
Overachieving and eccentric football manager Brian Clough was on his way to take over at the country's most successful, and most reviled, football club: Leeds United, home to a generation of fiercely competitive but ageing players. The battle he'd face there would make or break the club - or him. David Peace's extraordinarily inventive novel tells the story of a world characterised by fear of failure and hunger for success set in the bleak heart of the 1970s.
David Peace was born and brought up in Yorkshire. He is the author of The Damned Utd, described by The Times as 'probably the best book ever written about sport', Tokyo Year Zero, and the Red Riding Quartet - which is comprised of Nineteen Seventy Four, Nineteen Seventy Seven, Nineteen Eighty and Nineteen Eighty Three - as well as GB84. He has won the James Tait Black Memorial Award and was included on Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists 2003.
