"Take a day off from normal life in this absolute scream of an uplifting novel, it’s hilarious and bold with piercing depths waiting just below the surface."
Oh how I loved this book-bundle of joy! Lucky Day made me ache with all the feelings it evoked. It’s piercing and provocative yet thoughtful and empathetic as it tickles and prods laughter to the surface. Beth Morrey has been fast developing into one of my favourite authors (she’s also rather fun to follow on social media too). Her debut Saving Missy and second novel Em & Me were both LoveReading Star Books. Her latest book joins them in this special category and as a Liz Pick of the Month. Her three novels have all been very different, yet undeniably hers. So far they have each fit within the ‘uplifting or feel-good’ genre, containing thought-provoking moments and areas of undeniable darkness, yet sparkling with her very own brand of eloquence and wit. In Lucky Day, Clover Hendry unexpectedly finds herself without a care in the world and decides to forget about work and family and take a day off from all her responsibilities. What results is an energising, stimulating, and challenging read, and it’s snort-worthy funny too. I found myself forgiving Clover for all of her transgressions, it felt as though she could almost (almost) get away with murder on her day off! This is because of the way she has been written. Yes, she hurtles through the day right on the edge, but I really loved this woman and a part of me wished I could change places with her. The very best of a feel-good read, Lucky Day is an absolute blast, forget what you should be doing and just throw yourself in!
