LoveReading Says
Powerful, provocative and painful while being full of compassion, this is an utterly addictive and unforgettable thriller forming a part of the Will Trent and Sara Linton Series. Three years after vowing to stop the man who raped her patient, Sara Linton, along with Will Trent and Faith Mitchell, realise there are increasing links to Sara’s own violent attack fifteen years before. Each new novel by Karin Slaughter becomes my new favourite of hers, and this has to be her best yet. Here, the story walks a razor sharp edge, it is incredibly hard to read at times, yet I couldn’t put it down. Karin Slaughter dissects the trauma of rape with compassion yet doesn’t shy away from the raw reality of feelings that are tied up within that crime. While considerate and thoughtful she hits with hammer-hard precision, keeping the plot as taut and tight as can be. The focus is very much on Sara, yet Will and Faith are on point, doing what they do best. Friendship, family, and love act as a balancing force against the heartache. My thoughts were working overtime, my emotions were flooded, and I felt as though every word mattered as each jigsaw piece fitted into the next. Hats off to Karin Slaughter, I really do feel that she has judged this to perfection, and so this novel joins our LoveReading Star Books. Highly recommended by our team, After That Night is a well-judged masterclass of nail-biting plot, piercingly authentic detail, and utterly convincing characters.
