LoveReading Says
This award winning crime debut from Denmark is as thoroughly entertaining as it is provocative. Journalist Heloise Kaldan is contacted by the wanted suspect of a murder, Anna Kiel. Detective Erik Schafer has been searching for Anna for three years, as the three lives become entangled, the answers begin to unravel. Author Anne Mette Hancock writes with confidence, her plot whips along, penetrating and thought-provoking, heading into a dark foreboding territory with compassion. Even in the midst of murder, translator Tara Chace has created a Denmark that feels as though it could be home. I wasn’t expecting the direction this novel took which pleased me immensely. I understand that this is the first in a series, though it feels as though it is a standalone which is always a good sign, and the second novel The Collector is due to be published in 2023. Any one of the main characters could easily lead a series, I felt totally invested in their lives. The Corpse Flower is smart and intelligent, taking a difficult path with aplomb, and I’ve highlighted it as one of my Liz Picks of the Month.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo meets Sharp Objects in this internationally bestselling thriller, for fans of Jo Nesbo and Henning Mankell
Danish journalist Heloise Kaldan is in the middle of a nightmare. One of her sources has been caught lying, and she could lose her job over it. And then she receives the first in a series of cryptic letters from an alleged killer.
Anna Kiel is wanted for murder but hasn’t been seen by anyone in three years. When the reporter who first wrote about the case is found murdered in his apartment, detective Erik Schafer comes up with the first lead. Has Anna Kiel struck again? If so, why does every clue point directly to Heloise Kaldan?
As Heloise starts digging deeper she realises that to tell Anna’s story she will have to revisit her darkest past, and confront the one person she swore she’d never see again…
