A Song of Ice and Fire is a series of epic fantasy novels by the American novelist and screenwriter George R. R. Martin. He began the first volume of the series, A Game of Thrones, in 1991; the book was published in 1996.

If you have read these novels and want more of the same, we have created a collection of books here that we think will sate your hunger for more.

First up, another titan of the sci-fi/fantasy world is Lord of the Rings. Although fans of the genre have most likely already come across Tolkien's famous work it would be remiss of us to not mention it here. The first book of the trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring sees a young hobbit entrusted with an immense task. Much loved by our experts, Liz Robinson says "I can disappear into the pages for hours and not come up for air. This isn’t fantasy for me, it’s a reality."

An epic tale of another sort, Lord Of The Silver Bow by David Gemmell is a part of the Troy series which brings ancient Greece to vivid life with adventure, action, love, heartache, courage and betrayal.

Stephen Aryan's The Coward is a thoroughly entertaining and epic slice of heroic fiction. Meet Kell Kressida who is a legend a celebrity and hero. When he was seventeen he set out on an epic quest with a band of experienced fighters to save the world. He returned victorious, but alone. Now he is called upon to take up his sword once more to battle the forces of darkness, but he has a terrible secret. Intrigued? Scroll to the bottom of the page to add this book to your basket.

For another series where the main character has secrets, discover Sarah J. Maas' Throne of Glass. Celaena Sardothien is a deadly assassin, the best of her kind until she was caught. But she's granted an opportunity, one that will require huge sacrifice but could grant her freedom and put her on the path to uncover her true destiny.

More recently, we've read The Dragons of Deepwood Fen, the first in an epic exploration of a new fantasy world by Bradley P. Beaulieu. Said perfectly by our Expert Liz Robinson, "Here be dragons! And oh, how wonderfully and vibrantly alive the dragons are that live in the Holt. With the inclusion of dreadful plots, brave inquisitors, clandestine groups, a secretive thief, and sleeping gods, this is an epic introduction to a new fantasy world."
