Organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, Sheikh Zayed Book Award (SZBA), has announced the shortlist for its 18th edition. This year's shortlist includes authors and institutions from 16 different countries and showcases the breadth of Arab culture around the world.
This award is one of the world's leading prizes to Arab literature and culture and has been highlighting writers, scholars, translators, cultural leaders, institutions and organisations since its inception in 2006. The SZBA also supports the publication of Arabic literature across the world with the SZBA Translation Grant. This grant sees international publishers awarded with translation funds every year.
A remarkable list of internationally published writers are features in this year's Literature shortlist with Egyptian author Reem Bassiouney making an appearance on the shortlist for the second year running.
Dr Ali bin Tamim, Secretary-General of SZBA and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, said:

It is with great pride that we present this remarkable shortlist, offering a glimpse into the cultural richness and intellectual vitality of today's Arab literary landscape."
It was another record year for submission this year, with 4240 total submissions from 74 countries. The winners will each receive 750,000 UAE dirhams (£160,621 / $204,198). The winners will receive their prize at an awards ceremony taking place at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair on the 30th April.
