Independent Bookshops Here for You During Lockdown

We love reading, we love buying books and according to our recent survey, more than 71% of us are reading more than ever during this crisis. Whilst high streets are closed, we are denied the leisurely browse round our favourite bookshops. It’s now not too easy to pop a book in your shopping trolley as you meander around the supermarket. Libraries are closed. And let’s be honest, we don’t all want to support Amazon any more than we have to. Much as we understand the ease of doing business on there, that recent stat that their sales have hit £8,800 a second is a tough pill to swallow when they are the greatest threat to high-street bookselling.

But all is not lost!

It’s been incredible to see how hard-working bookshops across the nation have responded and how booksellers’ creativity are keeping the love of books alive. Booksellers rising to the challenge is a joy to see, and we must support them to ensure we still have our indie bookstores when we come out the other side.

Here at LoveReading, we have been running a social campaign over the last year or so since lockdown to support booksellers across the country, who are still open for business.
