As a child, the opportunity to go to the library and pick up a new story, or renew an old favourite (Rapunzel, I’m looking at you) was a weekly highlight. As a student, Libraries provided the mountain of novels and reference books required for an English Literature course on a student budget. As an adult. Libraries are community pillar, with events, courses and of course, shelves upon shelves of books so you can always find something interesting to read. Libraries reflect local needs, and LoveReading loves to support them here on the website with our Library of the Month Serial.

The focus of Libraries Week this year is Wellbeing, and communities and libraries across the country are joining together with events to celebrate the much-loved library. Head to the website to find out what’s happening near you.

The Reading Agency started off the week by publishing a list of Mood Boosting Books. This list is a part of a nationwide promotion of crowdsourced uplifting books. With poetry, fiction and non-fiction titles, selected by librarians, readers and staff at the Reading Agency.

Libraries week also coincides with World Mental Health Day (10th October), and to mark the event The Reading Agency will also be publishing the annual impact evaluation of Reading Well. This is a Reading Agency and Libraries Connected programme that works to help people to understand and manage health and wellbeing using self-help reading. There are a number of lists associated with the Reading Well programme and they can be found on the Reading Agency Website
