Theo Elmer obtained his PhD from The Faculty of Engineering at The University of Nottingham under the supervision of Professor Saffa Riffat. His PhD thesis presents the design, development and testing of a novel proof-of-concept tri-generation system based on solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and liquid desiccant air conditioning technology to provide electricity, heating and cooling to building applications. The theme of the work sits within the topics of low-carbon & sustainable energy technologies, building services and low carbon building applications. The PhD was funded by the EPSRC CDT in Fuel Cells and Their Fuels. During his PhD numerous international conferences were attended and journal articles published relating to the doctoral work. Theo Elmer was also successful in securing funding from the EU Marie Curie International Research Staff Exchange Scheme for a research secondment to China. Following the completion of his PhD, Theo Elmer was awarded a research fellowship in the Architecture, Energy and
