TERRY EAGLETON is the author of nearly thirty books, including Shakespeare and Society (1967), The New Left Church (1968), Exiles and Emigrés (1970), Myths of Power (1975, second edition 1988), Marxism and Literary Criticism (1976), Literary Theory: An Introduction (1983), The Function of Criticism (1984), The Ideology of the Aesthetic (1990), The Idea of Culture (2000), a memoir - The Gatekeeper (2002) - and his most recent, After Theory (2004). He is Professor of Cultural Theory and John Rylands Fellow at the University of Manchester, UK.
