Roger Mortimer-Smith was born in London. He studied music at Kingston University and Goldsmiths College; opera performance at Birkbeck College, Morley College and the City Lit; and playwriting with Simon Stephens, Graham Whybrow, Ola Animashawun and Nadine Khadr- Renton. His first play, Why Don't You Just Sing Jazz?, was performed as the last night of the Grimeborn Festival of Alternative Opera at the Arcola Theatre in Hackney in 2009, with support from the Arts Council and Hackney Council. His work has been translated into German, Polish and Italian. In addition to writing, he works as a fundraiser for the charity Street Kids Rescue. He lives in Hampton Court with his wife, opera singer Nadine Mortimer-Smith.
