Breinin (1918-2011) was Daniel Kirby Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology of the New York University School of Medicine; he was also Director of the Eye Service of Bellevue and University Hospitals, New York City, and Consultant at the New York Veterans Administration Hospital.
