Durand Echeverria (PhD, Princeton University), Professor Emeritus of French and Comparative Literature at Brown University, is the author of Mirage in the West: A History of the French Image of American Society to 1815 and of numerous other books, articles, and bibliographical studies concerning cultural and political relations between France and America. Everett C. Wilkie, Jr. (PhD, 1977; MLS, 1978) is Head Librarian and Crofut Curator of Rare Books and Manuscripts in the Conneticul Historical Society. He has published numerous articles on French Americana.
