Chawki Abdelamir is a distinguished Iraqi poet, translator, editor and diplomat. He was born in 1949 in Nassirya and studied in Baghdad and Paris, where he was the cultural attaché for the South Yemeni government. Commissioned by UNESCO to direct the Kitab fi Jarida project, distributing millions of free books in newspapers across the Arab world, he is currently Iraq's representative on UNESCO. He has translated Gullevic into Arabic, Adonis into French and published over 30 books, including Parole du Quarmate, Épi des terres païennes, Ababyl, Lieux sans terre and L'Obélisque d'Anaïl, which won the Max Jacob Prize.
