Abu 'Ali Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ya'qublgn Miskawayh (932-1030), known as Miskawayh, was a prominent Persian philosopher and historian, born at Ray in Iran. He served at court in Baghdad and Shiraz and was also librarian and keeper of state papers. Translated from the Arabic by D. S. Margoliouth (1858-1940), Laudian Professor of Arabic, University of Oxford. Introduced by Hugh Kennedy, Professor of Arabic, SOAS, University of London. Hugh Kennedy is a noted international authority on the Abbasid period. His works include The Armies of the Caliphs (2001), The Court of the Caliphs (2005) and The Great Arab Conquests (2007).
