ALAN R. SADOVNIK is Professor of Education and Sociology Chair of the Department of Education and Academic Foundations at Rutgers University-Newark. He is the co-editor (with Susan F. Semel) of 'Schools of Tomorrow' Schools of Today: Whast Happened to Progressive Education and Knowledge and Pedagogy: The Sociology of Basil Bernstein. SUSAN F. SEMEL is Associate Professor in the School of Education at the City College of New York. She is the author of The Dalton School: The Transformation of a Progressive School, one of the seminal histories of the progressive school movement in the United States.
