Agave is a cactus-like plant. There are over 300 species of agave. Agave core is used to make syrup. The leaves of many species of agave are used to make ropes, twine, and coarse cloth. They are also used to make wrapping paper, ships' rigging, and fishing tackle. Flowers, leaves and stems make a wonderful salad. Syrup is extracted only from the core of the blue agave and it is used to make tequila.
