One of the most beloved stories of the Tibetan people and a great literary example of the contemplative life The Life of Milarepa, a biography and a dramatic tale from a culture now in crisis, can be read on several levels.

Yet Will I Trust Him: A Story of Perseverance and Faith
Yet Will I Trust Him is more than just a statement said by an ancient Biblical character. It is a statement that must be true in everyone who names the name of Jesus. It is easy to look at a statement like that and be inspired, but it takes on a whole different meaning when you have to live it. I want to share my story with you and explain exactly what I mean. I pray this book you hold in your hands will help you if you ever have to live out this most powerful statement of faith. What if I told you it was my frustrations and disappointments that strengthened my relationship and faith in God? What if I told you it was not the blessings that made me love God more but his sustaining power in my trials that fueled my confidence in him? What if I told you that you can be happy and flourish without the things you thought you couldn’t live without? In Yet Will I Trust Him, I will discuss the things God showed me in the midst of my greatest tragedies. This is not a normal story, but it is my story. It is full of priceless revelation that came out of costly experiences. I pray that as you read this book, possibly from your fiery furnace or your lion’s den, you experience Jesus in a way that will change your life and encourage you forever. Everything may be going great for you now. I pray this book helps you if at any moment a storm rises up and threatens to shake your faith. If you question if God is good all the time, this book is for you. God is always at work and is always speaking. Are we watching and listening?

Jesus and Judas: The Christian Messiah and the Disciple Who Betrayed Him
The life story of Jesus of Nazareth, considered by billions of Christians to be the Messiah prophesized in the Old Testament of the Bible, is perhaps the most famous in history. Described in detail in the New Testament, Jesus comes from both divine yet humble roots, born in a manger to a young woman, but in time he leads a fervent following as tales of his miracles spread across the Holy Land. The crucifixion and resurrection that follow create the climactic resolution of Jesus’ life story and cement his status as the Christ, at least in the eyes of the burgeoning religious movement that would sweep across the region in the coming decades. An anonymous writer would compose the first gospel, Mark, and the major theme would be the way of Jesus to his death. His followers, whose movement would originally be called 'the way,” would also bring about a new religion that has lasted 20 centuries, and while it is focused on the figure of Jesus, the rural man of Israel who started it all, the historical Jesus was gradually enshrined under layers of sermons, chants, legends and philosophies that would be alien to Jews in Jesus’s day. Like ideological strata, they covered the historical facts, obscuring the Jesus of history under the Christ of faith. It goes without saying that Judas is an interesting character in the development of the salvation history. His person, his act of betrayal and even his replacement were predicted by the Old Testament prophets, which some Biblical scholars take as evidence that Judas was doomed from the beginning to be the betrayer and had no choice. But by taking a closer look at the history, the reader will see several points along the way, even up to the moment of the final kiss, in which Jesus gave Judas the opportunity to repent. God’s plan was going to be fulfilled, and God was going to use an individual to bring about the betrayal of Jesus,

The Answer to the Atheist's Handbook
Richard Wurmbrand spent three years in solitary confinement during his 14-year imprisonment in Communist Romania. In The Answer to the Atheist's Handbook, conceived during his solitary confinement, Wurmbrand challenges the arguments for atheism as proposed by the Soviet Academy of Science's Atheist's Handbook. Throughout the Communist world, the teachings of the Atheist's Handbook held supreme authority. But Wurmbrand demonstrates that the atheistic worldview leaves more questions unanswered than it settles. Full of wisdom and grace, The Answer to the Atheist's Handbook explores insights from Scripture, literature, art, and philosophy that bear witness to the reality of God and His redemptive plan for humanity.

We learn about life through the lives of others. Their experiences, their trials, their adventures become our schools, our chapels, our playgrounds. Christian Encounters, a series of biographies from Thomas Nelson Publishers, highlights important lives from all ages and areas of the Church through prose as accessible and concise as it is personal and engaging. Some are familiar faces. Others are unexpected guests. Whether the person is Galileo, William F. Buckley, John Bunyan, or Isaac Newton, we are now living in the world that they created and understand both it and ourselves better in the light of their lives. Their relationships, struggles, prayers, and desires uniquely illuminate our shared experience. HERO OR HERETIC? GENIUS OR BLASPHEMER? It's no mystery how profound a role Galileo played in the Scientific Revolution. Less explored is the Italian innovator's sincere, guiding faith in God. In this exhaustively researched biography that reads like a page-turning novel, Mitch Stokes draws on his expertise in philosophy, logic, math, and science to attune modern ears with Galileo's controversial genius. Emerging from the same Florentine milieu that produced Dante, da Vinci, Machiavelli, Michelangelo, Amerigo Vespuci, Galileo questioned with a persistence that spurred his world toward an unabating era of discovery. Stokes confronts the myth that Galileo's stance on heliocentricity stood astride a church vs. science divide and explores his calculations for the dimensions of Dante's hell, his understanding of motion, and his invention of the pendulum clock. To read this volume is to journey through Galileo's remarkable life: from his inquisitive childhood to his dying days, when, although blind and decrepit, he soldiered on, dictating mathematical thoughts and mentoring young proteges.

This collection of memoirs walks the reader through the experiences of a child growing up in Omaha, Nebraska in the 1950s. Her young life in Cathedral parish centers around church, school, and neighborhood whose ever-widening perimeters became her arena of learning, mischief, and play. School stories began with the bewilderment of a five-year-old, meeting for the first time a traditionally dressed Dominican sister, her first-grade teacher. Then through other stories with a child's vision, we see the education she received, activities in which she participated, and the people surrounding her in her twelve years at Saint Cecilia's Grade School and Cathedral High School. Her stories also visit places that no longer exist, like Peony Park, Aksarben, Blackburn Pharmacy and even, sadly enough, our Cathedral High School. Although these places no longer exist, visiting them again will show you how special they were, and how much fun they brought to young lives. The real stars of these memoirs are the people that made them memorable. Usually identified only with their initials, they bring forth stories that were fun to revisit. Each person was one component in the development of a young life so different from those growing up in the twenty-first century. The all-important family, the class of thirty-five first graders that grew to 111 high school graduates, the sisters and priests that gave their lives to their God, and to their students were all important pieces in the development of this Catholic Girl in the '50s. Mary Ellen Kauth Olsson (AKA Baba Herk) is a wife, mother of four, and grandmother of one and a retired alternative educator with a BA in English and history from Duchesne College and an MS degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She has written stories and poems throughout her seventy-seven years, but writing her memories for the Echo section of the 'Cathedral Chimes' and the desire to share her family stories with her grandson developed this...
