My Father Milorad, A Life In Letters: A Psysician’s Odyssey In Serbia and Russia
A biography capturing the adult life of Dr. Milorad Velimirović, a Serb who studied and lived in Czarist Russia in the decades just before WWI and the Russian Revolution. His life is revealed through letters home which contain descriptions of concerts and plays, politics of the day and his attendance at social events; all of this is in addition to the expected personal and familial concerns of an eldest son for his parents and younger brothers and sisters. These writings from one present at the moment provide a fresh look at events that are now distant history. The letters are introduced and given context by the remembrances of his son Prof. Miloš Velimirović, who was also the translator. This audiobook also includes a brief genealogical register of the Velimirović family. Born early in the period between WWI and WWII, Miloš Velimirović grew up in a relatively well-to-do family in Belgrade. After university in Yugoslavia, he was fortunate to be sponsored to study at Harvard University, eventually earning a doctorate in musicology. He had a successful career as an academic in the U.S. and wrote this biography in 1996, in the earlier years of his retirement. The first child and only son of Miloš Velimirović and Norma Goodwin, Milo Velimirović inherited the unpublished manuscripts of his father. Early in his own retirement after a career supporting computing technology, and nearly, thirty years after the biography was written, he sought to have it published so that these life stories would be available to descendants, friends of the family, and interested readers.

Vulnerable Minds: The Harm of Childhood Trauma and the Hope of Resilience
A new, hopeful pathway to understanding children's trauma and providing effective interventions to build healthier communities Each year at least a billion children around the world are victims of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) that range from physical abuse to racial discrimination to neglect and food deprivation. The brain plasticity of our most vulnerable makes the adverse effects of trauma only that much more damaging to mental and physical development. Those dealt a hand of ACEs are more likely to drop out of school, have a shorter life, abuse substances, and suffer from myriad mental health and behavioral issues. The crucial question is: How do we intervene to offer these children a more hopeful future? Neurobiologist and educator Dr. Marc Hauser provides a novel, research-based framework to understand a child's unique response to ACEs that goes beyond our current understanding and is centered around the five Ts-the timing during development when the trauma began, its type, tenure, toxicity, and how much turbulence it has caused in a child's life. Using this lens, adults can start to help children build resilience and recover-and even benefit-from their adversity through targeted community and school interventions, emotional regulation tools, as well as a new frontier of therapies focused on direct brain stimulation, including neurofeedback and psychedelics. While human suffering experienced by children is the most devastating, it also presents the most promise for recovery; the plasticity of young people's brains makes them vulnerable, but it also makes them apt to take back the joy, wonder, innocence, and curiosity of childhood when given the right support. Vulnerable Minds is a call to action for parents, policymakers, educators, and doctors to reclaim what's been lost and commit ourselves to our collective responsibility to all children.

Posing As People: Three Stories, Three Plays
Science fiction is rare in theatrical form, but with Posing As People, three unforgettable sci-fi stories by Orson Scott Card are adapted into powerful stage plays by three different writers. “Clap Hands and Sing” shows us a lonely—but rich and powerful—old man who has only one wish before he dies: To go back in time and take an opportunity for love that he once let slip by. But what will it do to the young girl who used to love him? “Lifeloop” pretends to be reality TV twenty-four hours a day. In fact, they’re really actors. But when your character is you, without any break, how exactly do you have a “real” life? And how can a fellow actor tell you that he loves you, when that’s what the script also calls for him to say? “Sepulchre of Songs” is about a heartbreakingly lovely girl who lost her arms and legs many years ago, and now yearns to be free, not just of the rest home where she lives, but of her body. So is the alien being who wants to trade places with her real or the product of her own imagination? And can her therapist’s growing love for her keep her from fleeing—either into space or the dark recesses of her own mind? Read by Eric Artell, Scott Brick, Emily Janice Card, Sara Ellis, Kirby Heybourne, Kelly Lohman, Stefan Rudnicki, Lara Schwartzberg, and Victoria Von Roth, the original cast of the stage production, September 21, 2004 at the Whitefire Theatre Los Angeles directed by Orson Scott Card.

Only the author, a rakish sci-fi writer, knows whether his popular novel is truthful or a hoax. In a story that is cosmic, inventive, and sly, multi-award-winning author Lavie Tidhar (Central Station) travels from the emergence of life to the very ends of the universe.
