Tampa homicide detective Mike Ash faces two of his most baffling cases yet! First, someone is trying to rid Tampa of drugs and criminals, but who? Territorial rivals? If so, why leave the drugs and weapons for the police to find? Yet where has all the money gone? Second, why is a national children’s charity suddenly underfunded and closing its operations across the country? More importantly, why are some of the top executives found murdered?
While Mike tries to sort out the means, motives, and opportunities for multiple murders, his girlfriend, Terri, confronts her past traumas and current fears with the help of a caring psychologist. Is she safe from the man who kidnapped her, then disappeared after her rescue? Can she trust Mike to keep her informed and safe from the kidnapper?

Business As Usual covers an eventful period in the life of Tampa police homicide detective Mike Ash. Before Mike investigates three separate deaths, while teaching in a statewide seminar in Orlando, he learns of the death of his friend, fellow Army Ranger veteran Dennis Stokely. In the course of an opportune meeting with his friend, crime scene investigator Candace Pennington, Mike shares about Dennis’ life and how he came to be in Tampa. Upon returning to Tampa, Mike searches for Band-Aid, the cat that he helped Dennis rescue in Afghanistan. During a visit to a local art studio, Mike and Band-Aid are reunited and the owner of the studio insists that Mike and his girlfriend, Terri Foster take Band-Aid home with them. During his death investigations, Mike's relationship with Terri grows in trust and deepens in intimacy. When Terri is rescued from a would-be murderer, she fears that Mike will discover the terrible secret that has been the source of her deepest shame.
Young, though seasoned Tampa homicide detective Mike Ash is stumped! A victim is discovered in his own home, but with no other evidence, and the only eyewitness to the crime is the family dog. A few days later, another man is found murdered in his home-just around the corner from the first one. Again, there is no real evidence or witnesses. Neighbors are worried about a serial killer,, but Mike gets a hunch that maybe things aren't as bleak as they seem. The two newly widowed women have so much in common: a close friendship, physically abusive husbands, and the successive ownership of the dog found at the first murder scene.
As Mike begins interviewing friends and family, he meets a coworker of one of the widows and an unlikely romance is sparked. Now he must not only find the killer but assure his new love interest that he's not using her to get information.
Ultimately, suspense builds as Mike realizes he has the answer he cannot prove.
