Gripping Read
I have read Jane Corry's previous 2 books and really enjoyed them, so was really pleased to be sent her latest to review.
The Dead Ex is the story of Vicki and her ex husband. To start with there are hints about Vicki's past that keep you guessing. To start with Vicki seems an unreliable narrator but as more of her past is exposed, she becomes a lot more likeable and by the end I was rooting for a positive outcome.
I love the chapter splits between the main characters, always leaving me wanting to read one more.
Jane's style of writing really draws you in, she is definitely one of my favourite authors.
The twists and turns of this story kept me interested and wanting to finish but not at the same time. Excellent read, thoroughly recommend it.
What a devious and devouring read. From a genre that have so many titles fighting for originality this one manages it with gusto.
What a devious and devouring read. From a genre that have so many titles fighting for originality this one manages it with gusto. Its twists and turns keep you gripped all the way through. Your left questioning the main character and then questioning yourself! Told from the perspective of the three woman connected to the missing man your left thinking each could be guilty and although you suspect the twist your never quite sure until the end when each of there stories coming crashing together. I love also that this one does reach a conclusion. I like making my own assumptions but sometimes its good to know too :)
What an exciting read this is. A marriage that has gone sour, the fall-out, a mother's "protection" of her child and the ultimate revenge.
Wow. This is a powerful story that just keeps getting better as you read.
Vicki is an aromatherapist living in Penzance. Her life is lonely and difficult because of her seizures. She does have a little warning, but medication doesn't stop them. Stress is the worst trigger. Her heart has been broken by her ex-husband David and the loss of their son, Patrick.
Zelda is a single mother who treasures her daughter Scarlett. Scarlett and she play games, but not like any other children. Scarlett is a thief and drugs mule. She is too young and innocent to know what the games are about but is easily manipulated by her mother.
She goes to a foster family when her mother is caught and put on remand. After getting into trouble she is moved again. She settles with a couple who live in the country and she is able to live a life without breaking the law. Her mother is up for parole after a few years, but an incident in prison has quashed that and more time is added to her sentence.
David, her ex-husband goes missing so the police land on Vicki's doorstep to question her. She has no idea where he is and feels that his current wife, Tanya, will know something.
There are secrets that she keeps but her fear is that admitting certain things will make her look guilty.
This is an exciting read and we cannot but feel empathy for some of the characters. The storyline is an elaborate ruse that keeps you guessing.
I highly recommend this book for all lovers of mystery and intrigue.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are all my own and completely unbiased. My thanks to NetGalley for this opportunity.
I enjoyed the book - it was well written and had a few unexpected twists in it!
I enjoyed the book on the whole - it was well written and had a few twists in it that I did not see coming! Having said that, I did not like the way it kept changing whose story was being told, but that is very much a personal thing. I will not be rushing out to but the author’s other books.........but should I come across them I would read them.
I love this book, a brilliant story of betrayal and revenge.
Absolutely brilliant. I read this book on holiday and it's the perfect holiday page turner. There are two stories running through the book, each taking a chapter in turn. Both stories are intriguing and captivating. I can't recommend this book highly enough. When the police come to tell Vicki her husband is missing it sets off a series of events leading to tradegdy but also flashing back to her own tragedy. The second element to the story is really harrowing and brilliant but I don't want to give away any spoilers. There are twists you definitely don't want spoiled.
