Sweden, Elk hunting is in full swing, and gunshots echo round the woods, but it is not just Elks, that are dying, a body has been found, missing it's eyes.
Enter Tuva Moodyson, a reporter won a small local newspaper who has been deaf since childhood. Tuva is looking for that ONE Story, the story that will make her name, and boost her career. Is this is it? Hoping that this is the ONE, Tuva investigates, even though she has a deep dislike for Nature and creepy woods are not her thing.
As she investigates, she comes across a web of dark secrets and an unsolved murder over twenty years old.
When reading this is I could see the oddball characters of Twin Peaks, eg The Log Lady, (LOVED THE ORIGINAL Twin Peaks), Dark Pones is tense, gritty and exciting. Tuva is great character, with a dark sense of humour. Being deaf myself, I understood her mounting frustration at beeping hearing aids!
What a great TV Series Dark Pines would make!
The descriptions of the characters, scenery all add to the brooding presence of the tale. The tension is unrelenting and I'm eagerly waiting on the next in the series.
