Dark & disturbing, a story from three point of views, every single one of the characters being extremely unlikable, however at the same time you just won’t be able to put this down! I read in one sitting... what a brilliant debut novel from Michelle Sacks!
Dark & twisted, I was gripped!!! Even though I didn’t warm to any of the three characters (they are so unlikeable)I just couldn’t put the book down and read it in one sitting. Sacks writing style is very unique, each chapter is from a different characters point of view... it’s hard how to put in words how I feel after finishing this book.. it’s one I think will play on my mind for the next couple of hours.
Sam & Merry move to Sweden from NYC when they inherit a house from a family member, what comes next is a story of control, lies & pure toxic relationships.
As the back cover says ‘Don’t read this if you think your husband is having an affair, your wife isn’t telling you the truth or your best friend is hiding something from you’
'You were made for this' is perfect for fans of 'Gone Girl'. Michelle Sacks' writing is a breath of fresh air. I can't wait to read what she writes next.
What a rollercoaster ride of a book! A seriously dark, thrilling story with deceitful, complex characters. Nothing is as it seems in this very creepy novel. Right from the beginning I was drawn into the perfect life of the couple who moved to Sweden. Merry seems the model housewife: a talented cook, great mother, efficient gardener. Sam is a devoted father, attentive husband, a highly regarded Professor. Sam's step-grandmother left him a secluded house in a nature reserve. Their too-perfect life soon is revealed to be a farce. I raced through the book in just three sittings. The plot, characters and pacing is spot on.

A bold domestic thriller. But different from what you usually get. Michelle Sacks is a brave writer to write such a harrowing tale, she confronts every mother's worst nightmare.
Set in the postcard-perfect Swedish countryside, Sacks tells a story that sheds a light on a quietly explosive marriage- friendships and motherhood. Disturbing. And painful. She delivers the story from multiple perspectives, shifting to build suspense and throwing the reader off with impeccably timed and unforseen twists.
You Were Made For This is as clever as it is disturbingly messed up. Merry and her husband, Sam, move to Sweden in hope of a fresh start. In Sweden, they know no one. With Merry being pregnant, they can be the their own family. They are an island of three. Merry is the content housewife, a role she never imagined herself playing. Sam is looking for work. They are happy. Or they seem happy anyway... Merry's old childhood friend, Frank is set to visit. Friends often see more than we think. They can be the best judges.
Sacks writes well constructed characters: believable, flawed and multi-faceted. I was most impressed with the slow, methodical pacing in which the characters' history is revealed to the reader. I definitely recommend this read.
An interesting read with well rounded and believable characters. The plot was intriguing and written in an unusual way. I didn't find it particularly tense or exciting but it was am easy read.
An interesting book that kept me guessing until the end. The characters were believeable and well rounded and the way the author described their thoughts was very clever.
Although I did want to find out how it would end I didn't find it to be a page turner or particularly tense, but it was an easy read.
Creepy but gripping psychological thriller about the secret dark side of people and their dysfunctional relationships. Deeply disturbing but utterly compelling story!
You Were Made for This is a creepy but gripping psychological thriller. Merry and Sam have moved from America to rural Sweden where they are enjoying an apparently idyllic life with their baby Conor. However, things are not what they seem and after the arrival of Merry’s lifelong friend Frank we gradually discover more about these thoroughly unlikeable people and their dysfunctional relationships. This dark, disturbing but compelling story is narrated in alternating chapters written from the different perspectives of the three main characters. This device does add a degree of interest to the storytelling but it fails to engender any sympathy. However, although this story of infidelity, jealousy, lies and secrets presents a negative and depressing view of human relationships, I did find it remarkably enjoyable to read and I barely put it down until I finished it.
You Were Made For This is so atmospheric, dark and twisted. I read two-thirds of the book in one sitting and only stopped because I just had to go to work.

Merry and Sam are living what appears to be the dream life in Sweden with their baby son. Having left the hustle and bustle of America behind along with their careers, Sam is trying to start a new business whilst Merry is embracing motherhood along with being the perfect housewife. Yet all is not as it seems and their story unfolds to reveal lies, a strange friendship forged in childhood and neighbours whose lives are less perfect than they lead people to believe. Lives begin to unravel after a terrible incident in the forest. Who is telling the truth and who is lying. Who is to blame.
The story is easy to read whilst making the reader think. It is slightly disturbing; how well do we really know people? Their lives behind closed doors and more importantly, what they are thinking? After reading You Were Made For This you’ll begin to realise that you can never really know everything and sometimes what you believe to be true, just isn’t.
Easy to read but perplexing.
Page turner but ultimately frustrating. The characters in this book are initially believable, however this is certainly not the case as the story progressed. I found this book rather perplexing. But I must say easy to read.
Intrigue on an idyllic Swedish island. Michelle Sack's debut novel is packed with intrigue and suspense.
Michelle Sack's debut novel is packed with intrigue and suspense. She sets the scene of the idyllic Swedish island and a couple forging a new life together, away from the trouble and unhappiness they'd felt in the USA. But all is not quite right. And Sack's story highlights how you cannot escape from yourself. Written from three different viewpoints the novel weaves through a few months of their lives, their past, present and future. I found the lack of speechmarks odd to begin with and had to re-read quite a number of the conversations, to the extent that I wasn't quite sure why she had decided on this technique. And sadly although I wanted to know what had happened, none of the characters had any redeeming qualities, so I didn't really care about them. Having said that I fairly whipped through the book as it flowed very easily.
