The Little Time Allotted Us by Laura Paquette is a science fiction story to its core, there’s advanced tech intergalactic war, memory wipes, brain chips, multiverses and so much more. You’re in for a rollercoaster ride at the start of this Andromeda Khanate Duology.
We begin the story with Khair, a war criminal that escaped a death sentence by having her memory wiped. So, as you can imagine, the main character and readers alike are off balance as we try to figure out what’s happened, where we are and the characters around us. Paquette weaves a complex tale as Khair joins Khanate General Taivan’s crusade against the United Oversight for Democracy. The writing brings all of the characters to life, they have flaws and dimensions, you root for them through their struggles especially as more of their past is revealed. This is an intergalactic, multiverse, sci-fi novel but the writing really brings the story to life in a way that feels authentic.
It’s not a criticism to say that there is a lot going and I wouldn’t say that this is a light read. However, if you want to board a spaceship and head for distant stars, immerse yourself in this complex twisting narrative with compelling, witty characters then The Little Time Allotted Us is definitely a great recommendation.
