"Having read the series from the beginning it was compelling to see how the Lightning-Strongman family dealt with this latest trial."
Annabelle’s family history continues as her family copes with loss and grief. ‘The Missing Puzzle Piece’ is the fourth book in the A Dying Truth Exposed series. Having read the series from the beginning it was compelling to see how the Lightning-Strongman family dealt with this latest trial. For those that haven’t read the previous books in the stories, go back and start with ‘Bloodlines’ as this one most definitely relies on your knowledge of the previous books. Following Annabelle and John’s story as they search for their missing son Joseph, and Joseph’s as he is kidnapped and sold into slavery, we are taken back to the similar environments of book one, experiencing the relentless work and brutality of the plantation as the family search helplessly to try to bring their son home. The pacing of this book is quite steady, almost directly contrasting the character’s drive for the family to be reunited again. Old friends and Annabelle’s history are brought back into the fore and I think that there are a lot more trials to come for her family. The author’s writing is as always highly descriptive and doesn’t flinch away from describing the horrors experienced by those enslaved. However, the creation of strong, tenacious characters offers a slight silver lining for the reader and lots of characters to support and want to be freed or escape. The political landscape at this point in the book seems to be changing and although I hope that the next book will deliver a brighter conclusion to Annabelle’s story, I feel we may have a bit longer to wait.
