"PI team turns hustlers to get a stolen painting back to its rightful owners."
Available on Kindle from Amazon.
Rain City Hustle by M.D. Grayson is the latest story from the Danny Logan Mystery Series focused on Logan PI and investigative team Danny Logan and his fiancee Toni Blair. Will they be able to help an old friend recover her father’s prize painting from a notorious loan shark before their impending nuptials, or will the case mean the date is moved back once more?
I haven’t read the earlier books in the series but I didn’t feel I needed to as the dynamic between Logan and Blair was pretty well explained and the plot focuses on a fresh case. This isn’t the most realistic plot, as the PIs enter into a partnership with a highly successful con artist with an interest in revenge in order to pull off a very grand hustle (it’s a good job their client makes movies) to best a loan shark and restore a prize painting. However, like any grand heist or hustle stories, all the ticking pieces slotting together seemingly into one fluid motion is what makes them so enjoyable. All of the characters are varied, from Henry Parker the fatherly almost Robin Hood style con artist with experience and ideas and a bone to pick with our not so friendly loan shark family, to Billy Thorne the “gangster-equivalent of a trust-fund baby” partying hard but trying (and failing) to succeed in his father’s image. I was entertained by ‘The Rain City Hustle’ enough to be interested in reading more books from this series and going back to read the earlier books to learn more about Toni and Danny.
A crime fiction with drama, thrills and spills that shows why it’s best to not exploit someone with a movie making company and access to set designers, special effects and a cast of actors.
