"An accessible guide to build confidence and communications skills in social situations."
Available in Kindle and Paperback on Amazon.
The title of this book grabbed my attention straight away. As an introvert and someone who struggles to network and socialise at unfamiliar and larger group events, I was curious about Small Talk Rules and interested to know what Gregory Peart recommended to help become a better communicator in these types of situations. The book is split into 5 clearly labelled “How to...” sections which will be helpful to refer back to key or relevant sections for a refresh after reading. The book then goes on to explore the different ways that conversations can be started, maintained and made more entertaining.
The author uses many examples to show how some conversations go, and how they could possibly go in order to be continued or make a more successful social interaction. The tips and suggestions throughout may seem obvious but they are often things that people who are shy or nervous communicators tend to forget, whether it’s reassurance that someone who takes control of a conversation has had more time to prepare and so appears more confident, or a reminder to expand on your answers, include an opinion or additional piece of information to allow you to build connections and allow the conversation to flow. I quite liked that the answers supplied in this book seemed quite simple and obvious. It made the prospect of improving my communication skills feel more manageable, like they were solutions that would be second nature when I’m more relaxed in the face of those scenarios and with maybe a bit more practice.
Small Talk Rules is presented in a way that is easy to read and accessible, with diagrams throughout to help illustrate the author’s point in a memorable, visual way that will help to put you at ease and feel that bit more confident and prepared to step outside your comfort zone.
