This is an interesting opening to a fantasy series. By placing the focus of the story on a ship and its crew it allows the reader to be introduced to the lore and key plot points while having the potential to expand and explore the setting in future books. The long cursed voyage and even the idea of mortals being caught between the powers of something more put me in mind of Homer’s Odyssey and I would be interested to know what direction the rest of the story will take, will we stay with the sailors or perhaps see the impacts of this otherworldly war elsewhere. An intriguing start to a fantasy series for readers looking for adventure on the high seas.
