The provision of water supply and sanitation services is vulnerable to projected changes in climate conditions, in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, and in the projected rise in sea-level and intensification of storm surges. Accounting for climate change at the outset of the project cycle implies that decisions about project design and climate-proofing measures are informed of the possible impacts of climate change in the initial phases of the project so that costly decisions are avoided. This publication presents a step-by-step methodological approach to managing climate change risk in the context of water supply and sanitation investment projects.
