Die Matrix Des Datenschutzes Synopsis

English summary: The legal protection of data emerged immediately as a matter of course. A reason for its development is the imperfect understanding of the fundamental concept of data protection. It is clearly an inexact term, and even though the term is often misunderstood and suggests a low level of understanding in political discourse, the term is hard to abandon without an alternative. In any case, the term is extended indiscriminately over a wide conceptual field. Kai von Lewinski analyses the concept data protection through its individual aspects and organizes them in their complexity in the form of a matrix for the reader. Through this presentation, the structure of individual parts, their distinction from, and similarity to each other, as well as their mutual connections are made clear, which helps to provide a systemic classification for the legal protection of data within the broad field of information law. Further, the comparison of data protection laws within Europe and across the Atlantic provides a ready-to-use resource that, despite the lack of clarity of the concept, is an aid to communication and comprehension.
