Das Karlstadt-Bild in Der Forschung Synopsis

English summary: Andreas Bodenstein von Karlstadt (1486-1541) was Martin Luther's first colleague from Wittenberg who stood up for him both as a fellow academic and as a publicist. He was also the first to fall out with him. As a consequence, Karlstadt's role in the context of the Reformation has been marked by ambivalence ever since. While for some he was the prototypical traitor to reformatory unity, for others he became a symbol for reformed, congregational or Anabaptist elements within the early Wittenberg Reformation. Martin Kessler highlights the urgent need for fundamental revision of the figure of Karlstadt by presenting the main contributions on Karlstadt written since the 17th century and by investigating the major developments in historical and theological research during the 19th and 20th century.

Jahrhunderts untersucht.
