English summary: The sociology of law was established as an independent academic discipline at the beginning of the 20th century. At the end of the century, the authors of this volume critically take account of the entire field and discuss the gains which have been made and the future prospects of this subject in the social sciences and in teaching. Well-known representatives of this field deal with classic subjects in the sociology of law, take a look at the European Community from the perspective of the sociology of law and examine the results of empirical research accompanying the reunification of Germany.


German description: Die Rechtssoziologie wurde als eigenstandige wissenschaftliche Disziplin zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts begrundet. Am Ende des Jahrhunderts ziehen die Autoren dieses Bandes in kritischer Analyse Bilanz und fragen nach den Ertragen ebenso wie nach den Zukunftsperspektiven der Rechtssoziologie in Wissenschaft und Lehre. Renommierte Vertreter des Faches nehmen sich dabei nicht nur der klassischen rechtssoziologischen Themen an, sondern betrachten auch die Europaische Gemeinschaft aus rechtssoziologischer Perspektive und prasentieren rechtssoziologische Einsichten aus dem Prozess der Wiedervereinigung.
Die Beitrage wurden anlasslich eines Gedachtnissymposions fur Edgar Michael Wenz verfasst, einem Mazen der Wurzburger Universitat und langjahrigen Lehrbeauftragten fur Rechtssoziologie.
