"Filled with jealousy, possession, wealth, power and greed for any reader wanting to indulge in a dramatic criminal underworld with soap opera style characters."
Having read Carmichaels' Diamonds, a previous book featuring Jasper and Kate Carmichael, I had thought that I knew the end of their story. But it seems Jasper is firmly in the clutches of his family’s curse, an insatiable need for diamonds and the wealth and power they bring. But will this curse infect the life he and Kate have built for themselves and their family? As I initially thought that Carmichaels Diamonds was a standalone story, completing the action and mapping out the future Jasper and Kate started to have with their sons, I found Jasper’s Diamonds to be an interesting addendum. After the honeymoon glow of the happy ending note of the last book, this sequel picks up when the humdrum of everyday life has well and truly made a reappearance. Work, family and the commitments required by being Lord Carmichael see Jasper and Kate in a more distant partnership than where we left them. The book still has a mafia romance atmosphere, with Jasper and Kate tending to work their frustrations out on each other in the bedroom as opposed to actually communicating, which would have been significantly more effective at resolving the issues at hand but wouldn't make for as dramatic a read However, on top of the charged and feisty relationship of our lead couple, Jasper's dealings and work to find, discover and weed out the enemies close to him take more of a lead. This means that Jasper’s Diamond could step more into the romantic suspense/thriller territory. There are plenty of familiar faces, back like a bad rash to get what they can from the Carmichaels (without much effort on Japer’s part at retribution) or else get revenge, and there are some more surprising plot twists along the way. Filled with jealousy, possession, wealth, power and greed for any reader wanting to indulge in a dramatic criminal underworld with soap opera style characters.
