LoveReading Says

LoveReading Says

A fiercely dark read full of spiky, gleefully provocative attitude, I loved it! The world is in crisis and ‘wealthugees’ are flooding into New Zealand to escape the turmoil of their homelands. While Alice does as a little as possible in life despite her near genius IQ, 15 year-old incomer Erika is able to provoke a reaction. Author Kirsten McDougall has created an out of the ordinary novel that challenges as it amuses, the humour successfully spears thoughts again and again. The plot concentrates on a few fabulously carved characters within the hugely epic setting of a world where humanity is on its last few gasps of air. This fairly simple premise is thoughtfully and intricately built into paper thin slices of ferocious interplay. Alice has joined my list of favourite literary characters, she goaded me into snorts of laughter and provided endless entertainment while somehow creeping into my affections. The other characters are as beautifully rounded and come fully loaded, each and every one of them was capable of creating a reaction in me. This novel felt personal, as though it belonged to me. It has carved out a space for itself in my thoughts and feelings and so has been chosen not only as a Liz Pick of the Month, but also wins the coveted title of a LoveReading Star Book. She’s a Killer is a daringly eloquent dystopian novel and the most beautiful read. Highly recommended.
