I absolutely adore the almanacs by Lia Leendertz and have regularly given them as gifts. A Year in Story and Song would make another perfect present for a loved one, or of course yourself. Like the almanacs, it is small with a stunning cover and contains beautiful illustrations. Within is a treasury of song, stories, charms, and folk tellings from the UK and further afield that have kept humanity company through the centuries. These provide a wonderful connecting relationship with the months, offering explanations, history, and information as the seasons roll by. Lia Leendertz explains: “For me, this process of telling, reading, singing and listening to the stories and songs of the year provides a vibrant echo of past lives and past ways of celebrating and marking the turning of the year: they are pieces of history that feel alive and spirited, and that we can be a part of”.
