"This LoveReading Star Book is as charming as it is thought-provoking, a garden becomes a place of sanctuary, inclusion, reflection, and love. "
The love for a piece of earth has brought this book to life, and the importance of this garden, both to the author and the reader, cannot be understated. Author Marchelle Farrell becomes friend and guide as she encourages you to explore her garden, her history, and her thoughts.
Uprooting centres around the search for a place to call home, it slips into the past, researches and analyses colonialism, and then weaves in the intimacy of family and self. This incredibly open and evocative memoir settles into being among a lifelong love of plants and the story of a garden. I found it absolutely fascinating, and just had to include Uprooting as both a LoveReading Star Book and Liz Pick of the Month.
Beauty, pain, and hope are to be found within the pages, and while it is fiercely raw and intense in places, it is also kind and empathetic. It is incredibly easy to read, there is a delicious flow and an invitation to become at one with the words. Highly recommended, Uprooting is a wonderfully generous memoir, it offers the chance to listen, learn, and fall in love with a garden.
