Escape to the Scilly Isles, where romance, family, friendship, and second chances combine to create the most lovely relationship story. After burning out at work, Lily is packed off to an isolated retreat where she is forced to reconsider her life. I love reading Phillipa Ashley’s novels, she understands how to deliver a joyously warming hug of a read, whether writing about summer holidays or Christmas festivities. Her books are so wonderfully easy to read and I mean that in the most positive way, you can escape into them and allow the words to carry you away. Lily feels as though she could be a friend, I cared about and wanted the best for her. The sense of place sings, with the Scilly Isles resplendent whether in fog or sunshine and I could picture the crafts and art from the Isles in my minds eye. Kindness and empathy run hand in hand through this novel, along with a message about the importance of sharing and working together, and taking time to consider what is important to you. Second Chance Summer would be a perfect novel to take on holiday, it is a friendly, loving, and beautifully sunshiny read.
