The Politician is the fourth book in a series by Tim Sullivan following Avon and Somerset’s Detective Sergeant George Cross. The title of each of his novels gives the game away by telling readers who the victim will be: dentist, cyclist, patient, and now, politician. This time, the unlucky victim is Peggy Frampton, the former mayor of Bristol, who continued to be active in local politics and also was an online agony aunt. Between the treacherous trenches of local government, and her online advice, Peggy made a few enemies along the way. When she is found dead at home, it looks as though it’s a burglary gone wrong.
But Cross thinks otherwise and begins to dig, in his own unique way, and the list of suspects grows ever longer. Could it be her philandering husband? Could it be her online troll? Could it be the developer whose project she blocked for years? Cross and his partner, Detective Sergeant Josie Ottley, who has the patience of a saint, pursue every avenue of inquiry—leading to many dead ends, but eventually (spoiler alert) finding the murderer.
The twisty tale is a compelling, page-turning police procedural with Cross at its heart. He is as unique as he is unforgettable.

The Politician Synopsis
A ransacked room. A dead politician. A burglary gone wrong – or a staged murder?
THE DETECTIVE
DS George Cross loves puzzles – he's good at them – and he immediately spots one when he begins investigating the death of former mayor Peggy Frampton. It looks like a burglary that went horribly wrong to most but George can see what others can't – that this was murder.
THE PUZZLE
After her political career ended, Peggy became a controversial blogger whose forthright opinions attracted a battalion of online trolls. And then there's her family: an unfaithful husband and a gambling-addicted son. With yet more enemies in her past, the potential suspects are unending.
THE SUSPECTS
Cross must unpick the never-ending list of seedy connections to find her killer – but the sheer number of suspects is clouding his usually impeccable logic. He's a relentlessly methodical detective, but no case can last forever. And politics can be a dangerous game – especially for people who don't know the rules . . .
