"Full of good intentions this is a modern witches’ grimoire of drinkable spells (delicious drinks recipes)."
Described as a book of potions for the modern witch (good-natured folk) throughout the year. For those who are not witchy or who may view this book with suspicion, these are not recipes to control or manipulate, more to enhance your own energy. Author Anais Alexandre feels entirely at home as a Wiccan, yet received hateful criticism and racism as a person of colour. By rebranding herself as an Afro-Wiccan and creating an eclectic witchcraft of her own, she feels people have been more understanding. She has created a book that allows you to step into potion-making by using an act of magical intention, alternatively you can just enjoy some delicious recipes. As the introduction states: “all of us are already expert potion makers and have been brewing potions most of our lives! Have you ever made chicken soup for a sick friend, baked your bestie a birthday cake, cooked a romantic meal for a Tinder date or made yourself an extra-energising cup of coffee in the morning? If you said yes to any of these then you already know the power of potions”. Recipes include brews, elixirs, herbal infusions, ointments, tonics, and more. She advises on kitchen tools, basic ingredients, and vegan substitutes, some recipes also come with variations to allow them to be alcohol free. There are sections on witchcraft, magic, energy, seasonal usage, and each comes with corresponding suggestions for other practices. The love potion ‘Sweet on Me’ is one to immediately try, it sounds like an absolute treat! Potions, Elixirs & Brews is full of temptingly tasty recipes to try, witch or not, they sound delightful!
