Written in several voices and dual-time, this is one of those thrillers that you really need to keep your wits about you to sort out who is who and what is what and then it connects … wow. We meet Kara whose mother was killed by a car bomb in Damascus, Mahmoud whom she loves but doesn’t really know it, Reiger who needs a document translated, George who can do just that, and then suddenly we switch to Afghanistan. Finally we have a cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. This is terrific.
