"‘Breakage’ is an easy to read thriller with twists right up to the final furlong."
There’s millions on the line in this high-stakes thriller. Donnie Chariot is an infamous horse racing handicapper. Seeing through the odds and stats to pick winners, he’s managed to make himself and others a lot of money. So, when the symptoms of early onset Alzheimer's start to impact his form, the mobsters so used to taking his advice aren’t very happy. Donnie’s estranged daughter and granddaughter also have this flair for numbers, so when the Las Vegas mobsters give Donnie an ultimatum, he’ll do anything to get their help. ‘Breakage’ by David-Michael Harding is a thrilling plot with a lot at stake. The characters are all morally grey, making them interesting and a little unpredictable. The lengths that the Chariots will go to to protect their family but also protect their reputation, and the sharks that are circling looking for an opportunity to take advantage of the instability helps to build tension and add a lot of twists to this tale. I found this thriller easy to get into and entertaining, and the added complication of Donnie’s Alzheimer's had me struggling to figure out what was going to happen next. ‘Breakage’ is an easy to read thriller with twists right up to the final furlong.
