The Feminist Press is committed to translating the works of Virginie Despentes and making the books accessible to an American audience. Novels by Despentes will feature cover art by celebrated American illustrator, Molly Crabapple, which will make the books instantly recognizable and tie them together through design. Molly Crabapple has a distinct style, and is a contributing editor for VICE, and has written for publications including The New York Times, Paris Review, and Vanity Fair.
The issue of women writers and translators (or lack thereof) has been received increased concern and airtime in the literature-in-translation community. This year, Three Percent hosted a "Literature World Cup" completely made up of women writers, organizations like VIDA and PEN drew attention to the underrepresentation of women translators, and indie publishers from around the world (such as And Other Stories, based in the UK) have promised to publish a year of solely women writers. Bye Bye Blondie has a woman author and a woman translator, both of who are already very prominent figures in the literature-in-translation community.
